PDM Magic Link

Magic Link is a feature that bridges your Proxmox Datacenter Manager (PDM) connection to PVE and PBS devices you already have in ProxMan — so you can tap a remote and land in the full native management experience instead of the generic PDM view.

How It Works

Magic Link is not a PDM authentication method. You log into PDM normally with password or API token. Magic Link is a pairing feature that links PDM remotes to existing devices:

1. ProxMan reads each PDM remote's configured web URL

2. It tries to match the hostname and port against PVE or PBS devices already saved in your app

3. On tap, you're deep-linked into the native PVE or PBS screen

Automatic Matching

When you open a PDM server's management screen, ProxMan automatically attempts to match each remote to a saved device. Matched remotes show a Magic Link indicator — tap to jump straight to native management.

Manual Linking

If automatic matching doesn't find a device (different hostname, port, or not yet added):

1. Tap the Magic Link button on an unmatched remote

2. Choose the PVE or PBS device from the picker

3. Your choice is saved per-device in app storage

You can change or remove a Magic Link association at any time through the Magic Link modal.

Requirements

  • Premium subscription — Magic Link setup and usage is only for premium
  • A PDM server added to ProxMan
  • The target PVE or PBS server already added as a separate device (or add it first, then link)
  • Compatible SSL certificates between the PDM remote URL and the saved device

When to Use Magic Link

Magic Link is ideal when you:

  • Manage infrastructure through PDM but want the full ProxMan PVE/PBS experience for a specific cluster
  • Have already configured PVE/PBS devices and don't want to navigate only through PDM's aggregated views
  • Need node-level detail, notifications (PVE/PBS), or features not available in the PDM remote view

When Not to Use Magic Link

  • You only have PDM access and haven't added individual clusters — use the built-in PDM per-remote views instead
  • You want a fleet-wide overview — stay on the PDM dashboard and guest browser

Tips

  • Add your PVE and PBS servers to ProxMan before setting up Magic Links for the smoothest auto-matching
  • Ensure the web URL configured in PDM for each remote matches the hostname/port of your saved devices
  • If auto-match fails, use manual linking — hostname differences (e.g., internal IP vs. public DNS) are a common cause
